Dr. Iwona Bielska is an epidemiologist and health services researcher with experience in academic and government settings. She is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Health Policy and Management, Institute of Public Health at Jagiellonian University, and an Assistant Professor (Part-Time) in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact (HEI), Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University. She completed a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)-funded Health System Impact Postdoctoral Fellowship at HEI and the Centre for Health Economics and Policy Analysis (CHEPA) at McMaster University, holds a PhD (Epidemiology) from Queen’s University, and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Dr. Bielska’s research focuses on health care access, utilization, and navigation among vulnerable populations, as well as system resilience. She is the Principal Investigator of two National Science Centre (Poland) OPUS grants on frequent emergency department use and access to emergency care among Ukrainian refugees in Poland, and Co-Principal Investigator of a CELSA-funded Polish-Belgian study on health care navigation among forcibly displaced Ukrainians.
