Chiara Altare, PhD, MPH, MA is Assistant Scientist in the Department of International Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr Altare holds a PhD and a MSc in Public Health from the University of Louvain, Belgium; a MA in Development Economics from the Institute of Social Studies, The Netherlands and a MA in International Relations from the University of Turin, Italy.
She is core faculty at the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health where her work focuses on operational and public health monitoring approaches and measurement methods for humanitarian settings; infectious diseases outbreaks and responses in crises (including Ebola, cholera, COVID-19); health service provision in humanitarian settings, and the intersection of climate change, displacement, conflict and health in humanitarian settings. Before joining the Center for Humanitarian Health, Dr Altare worked at Action Against Hunger (ACF) as Senior Research Advisor in Paris; and as Research fellow at the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) in Brussels.
